Implosion at Keenspot?

Postby fishamaphone » Sun Jan 24, 2010 10:28 am

Hey, anyone here know anything about what's been going on? From what I've been hearing, it seems like one of the foremost presences in online comicdom is about to shrivel up into next to nothing.

Basically, they're about to institute changes that would make it unreasonable for almost anyone to want their site on Keenspot, and seem almost to be *telling* their artists to leave.

I like the concept of Keenspot, but the management seems to be irresponsible at best.

Huh. I've vaguely follows misc webcomics politics stuff like that over the years (since about 2003 or so) - and there are just /so many/ better options out there right now.

Like one of the commentators said - that would be a good deal. In 2002.

In 2010? I don't think Keenspot will exist much longer.

Some of my comicking friends have postulated that they're trying to whittle down their number of artists to only a handful, akin to many of the collectives that exist today. But instead of telling artists "please leave" they're instituting these new rules that make artists want to leave on their own accord. It's office politics. Which sucks.

The impression I'm getting is that they're trying to whittle down their numbers to "only people who share a last name with the CEO."

I dunno, I don't really wanna judge 'em, but it feels kinda like if Disney just said "screw movies and TV, we're consolidating everything into our theme parks." I mean, it'll probably even work for the short term, but after a while, why would anybody keep going to the parks?
