Harris walked into the cafeteria and grabbed some food. Sitting at a table by himself he thought over what Rusty wanted him to do and how he would do it.

---

Mona walked up to Mr. Scott as the class was shuffling out for lunch.

"Slicha [excuse me], Mr. Scott? I believe I will need some help with this class."

"Ah. That explains why I don't recognize her." Tom made a show of contemplation. "So does this mean I should start an 'old girlfriend pining desperately for a former love' rumor?" He chuckled at the ludicrousy, then finished his soup. "So how'd your summer go? Mine was pretty boring."

Mr. Scott looked up. "I'm always happy to help out. What can I do for you?"

"Ah, yes, I think I will be needing some help in this class. I am fairly good at Chemistry, my mother used to teach it to me. However, Physics are a bit of weak area for me."

“It was nice,” Al answered automatically. He started on his fruit salad.
Abstractedly answering those common questions was another bad habit of his. He tried again, “not very eventful though. I spent a lot of it helping mom sort through her old stage props” He raised an eyebrow at Tom, “It’s hard for me to believe that your summer was ‘pretty boring’”

Kyle's study group kept working through lunch, adding trays of food to their stacks of books. This was common in the medical program, the joke being that used copies of Harcourt's Magical Anatomy cost ten dollars more at the campus bookstore because you could feed two people with what had been spilled on the pages. Either way, Kyle was due on shift as soon as lunch was over, so he started concentrating more on his meatloaf than the trollish cardiovascular system.

---

Elizabeth sat quietly at a small table by herself, eyes down and headphones on. If Kyle weren't doing something else, she might have sat with him, but he looked busy. It didn't matter, though. She liked eating alone, being able to listen to her music and enjoy a peaceful moment in the middle of the school day.

Okki raised his brow. "You like video games? But...didn't you get a chance to play the ultimate video games of the future?" Detatching himself from the conversation, the skunk started to forage for something to drink.
If you didn't get the memo. I'm Otachi, and Otachi's really a guy. Be amazed.

"Well, first of all, fighting games don't really change a whole lot. New characters, better graphics, better balance that I'm not even good enough to notice, but that's about it. And anyway, I'd be a pretty awful time traveler if I wasn't into retro."

Okki had found a bottle of grape juice and was pouring himself a paper cup full. "So it's massively complicated no matter what century you're in, eh? Sounds about right. Do I ever get to go on little time journeys with you?"

"Can't answer that, sorry. If I tell you about your future choices, they become my fault, which sucks in several interesting ways."

"Alright, alright...here." Okki handed the bottle to Riley. "Is it okay if I take off on ya? My shift's gonna start soon, and I need to...you already know why I need to be there early, right."

"Yup. Go do your lunch rush thing." The thought of a lunchtime rush at an infirmary still gave Riley the image of vampires having a food fight. "Thanks for the lasagna!"

"Hey, anytime, chronokid! See you whenever!" Okki hurried off, knowing that he'd be seeing a lot more red sauce before the day was through.

Tom shrugged. "Well, ever since that incident at the grade school last year, the local busybodies get antsy any time I leave the house without my parents and/or a cop." He rolled his eyes and stuffed his face. "Srf, yrr frn..." He swallowed. "So, you find any neat stuff? There's always something cool in old junk."

------------------------------------

Mr. Scott nodded. "Well, there are a couple options, depending on how much trouble, if any, you end up having with the course. First option is private instruction. This can be either with myself or a volunteer student. It's also usually only offered to people who are having excessive difficulty in a subject. Second option is a study group. Find some friends who would like to have a regular 'sit down and study' session. It generally helps if they're also taking the same class, or have taken it previously. Third is to simply find me outside of class and ask for help when you need it. I generally recommend a combination of study groups and finding me outside of class, though if you would like a tutor, I have a list of available students."

“Heh, I’m surprised a performer like yourself doesn’t take that as a challenge”
Al chewed thoughtfully. “Some things I found have potential, I wasn’t prepared at the time so I didn’t open anything” Al had learned from previous experience to take care when inspecting curious objects. Magic objects had a particular affinity to being summoned. A book or lamp sometimes were not all what they seemed.
“Oh, mom insisted on giving me some weird old costumes as well”
He shook his head. Tights.
