[RP] Chambers High: The New Class

Postby Dan » Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:53 pm

Five years ago, Chambers High School had quite the year. Multiple attacks on the school, changes in upper management, and an ancient evil nearly destroying the school... Luckily, Chambers wasn't your normal school. It was a school for unique individuals, persons capable of immense power, denizens of the dark and people who just don't fit in anywhere else.

It was because of these events five years ago that the original benefactors of the school decided to drop their funding. Luckily, two Chambers Alumni were brave enough to step forward in their stead. Remaining anonymous, they funded the relocation of the school to Washington, near the border to Canada, and helped bring in new staff to fill the voids. Many rumors abound about who these two generous individuals are, but the most pervasive is that they benefited from the recent bank de-regulations and golden parachutes.

Of course, this didn't stop Chambers' original benefactors from starting their own rival school on the old school grounds.

Out of Character wrote:Sure. Just post while I'm in the middle of sawing logs for 16 hours. I'm sure there's some guys chomping at the bit to get started. Seeing as I'm going to be opening with an established character I'm going to borrow and edit another post.

An older, well-dressed gentleman stood on the stage of the auditorium, addressing the crowd of new students before him. While he had many years under his belt, he still seemed spry and knowledgeable of today's youth.

"Welcome, students, to your freshman year at Chambers High School. My name is Dr. Jenkin Stein. I am the Principal of Chambers High, and your last line of authority."

He placed his hand in his pocket. It seemed as if he had done the same speech for many years. This was all old hat to him... the same thing every year. Another flock leaves the nest while a new batch of hatchlings enters.

"Many of you are away from home for the first time. This can be very trying, but remember that the staff is here to help you."

He leaned against the podium, and lowered his tone, as if he were to revealing new and exciting information. However, the students had all heard the same story.

"You are all here because you are all special. Each of you has powers and abilities that ordinary humans do not. Some of you have super abilities. Our superhero and supervillain courses will teach you all you need to know. Others are 'creatures of the night' or are one with the supernatural. We have many courses for you as well. And even those of you whose abilities have yet to manifest, or are, well, undefined, we will help you find your place as well. When you leave this school, you will have the skills to make it in this world! You will make a difference!"

He paused, waiting for applause, but only received a few claps from somewhere in the audience. Unaffected, he continued.

"Thank you. If you have any problems, or just want to talk, do not be afraid to approach me. I am there for you. Meanwhile, room assignments can be found on the bulletin board in the hall way. Classes begin tomorrow at 8 AM. Dismissed."

Out of Character wrote:I've got a couple other direction pointers that I'll post later on. This should get you started though. Also, I'm still working on a name for my main character, though I have decided he's a sophomore this year.

Mr. Scott stood against the back of the auditorium. This would be his sixth year at Chambers, and while it was far from what anybody would call a 'normal' teaching job, he wouldn't trade it for the world.

Gary felt a vague sense of deja vu as he listened to Dr. Stein's speech. In fact, he could have sworn that it was verbatim what he had said last year. He casually shrugged it off and scanned the auditorium for anyone he knew from last semester. Towering above practically all of the human students and most of the non-human ones, it would have been easy for someone to spot him.

Okki applauded again, smiling somewhat stupidly as other people got up to go about their business. He wasn't in any hurry, so he let the droves of people file out from around him, looking back to his schedule and trying to get all his classes memorized.

(ooc) I was expecting something a little more epic.... but... uhh... This'll do... //^_^\\'.... Could someone remind me where all the pretty colors are located again? (ooc)

Crayola had listened to the speech wide-eyed, adding a few soft 'oooh's to the mix. She, particularly, liked being told she was special. Specialness was always a good thing in her book. Wasn't it? She paused for a moment, uncertain. She opened her wheeled suitcase, exposing its contents for the world to see. It mainly consisted of black clothing, a box of crayons, paper, a pack of markers, and a rainbow-colored diary-like book. She picked up the diary-like book and flipped through the pages. Nope. It wasn't in there.

She grabbed a crayon and wrote down in small letters: Specialness is good. She beamed at it, revealing two small fangs, and put it away. She closed her suitcase.

...

Rachel Lake had probably rolled her eyes throughout Stein's speech a total of 15 times. The old man never changed it. It was like listening to her mother or her aunts. Same 'ole, same 'ole. When the speech was over, she muttered "Finally," grabbed several bags and a large suitcase and started heading for the girl dorms. But not until she ran into...

Melissa Adder.

The two girls narrowed their eyes at each other.

"Hello, Adder."

"Pleasure to see you again, Lake." There was a hiss-like quality to Melissa's voice.

The two glared at each other, as if ready to break into a cat-fight at any moment. Rachel was the first to break eye contact with a casual dismissal, and she continued on towards the girl dorms with her multitude of luggage in tow.

[ooc] Epic comes later, I'm guessing. And color is [ color = (name or #hexcode) ], [ / color ] with all the spaces removed.[/ooc]

Zakharal stood up and stretched, bending over backwards and stretching his arms and wings. The auditorium actually had seats made to fit wings, which he'd never seen before, but he still wasn't used to sitting down for very long. He looked at the crowd slowly filing out, and rolled his eyes - there was no need to wait behind all that. He grabbed the back of the seat in front of him, and vaulted into the air and snapped his wings open. Since flapping would squash the crowd with downdraft, he made it to the back of the room in a glide, banked right at the last minute to keep from slamming into someone, and landed right next to the door with a squeak of skidding sneakers.

There. Now, there had to be something cool to do in a place like this... Zack ducked out the door, looking around for something that caught his eye.

(ooc) Thanks Dan! (ooc)

Crayola tilted her little pointy-eared, stocking cap-covered head. As a creature of the night, it'd be a short while before she felt any energy to do anything really fun. Perhaps she could get some milk from the cafeteria, then go to the dorms and meet her new roommate. Roommates were always fun. Weren't they? She opened her suitcase and checked her little rainbow book again. Yes. Roommates were always fun. She put the rainbow book away and quickly misted through a crack in the wall. She seeped out to the hallway outside the auditorium. She reached into her pocket and unfolded a very crinkled up map. Cafeteria. She looked up. That way. She happily walked to the cafeteria, noticing that most obviously night students were yawning and heading to the dormitory areas.

...

Rachel dropped her stuff off at the dorms, not bothering to unpack. She didn't care who her roommate was really. She was eager to get to the gym. Where she came from, gyms were practically unheard of, and as much as she tried working out the old-fashioned way, it just wouldn't beat the gym facility's equipment.

-[ Can I assume that there are bleachers in the auditorium? If not, I can remove that from my post. ]-

Stamping her hooves nervously, Ember glanced up at the students that were filing out of the bleachers. She stood next to the stands, as she wasn't quite confident she could weave herself into the crowd of students. Her large equine ears flickered at the many sounds the students were making. She could pick up different conversations that were being held, but today she was more interested in finding out about her room arrangements.

Turning her large body, Ember started to slowly make her way around the many diverse students. Even though she had been at Chambers for a year, she still sometimes felt like she was at the school for the first time.

"Hi!" someone called out. Ember immediately turned her head, her face already starting to contort into a friendly smile, but she stopped when she realized that the person who was delivering a greeting was not directing it at her. Sheepishly, Ember turned her head back around and pretended like she was just trying to get an itch on her hide.

I wonder where my classmates from last year are...

Up ahead of her, there was a large student that seemed familiar to one that was in one of her classes the year before. Raising her eyebrows, she lifted her left hoof as well as her left hand and tried to get his attention.

"Ah...ah..." Wait, what was his name again? Ember struggled to remember.

A bright purple glow appeared around an empty auditorium seat, and a blond teenage boy appeared in it with a crackle of energy, duffel bag in his lap. He looked around at the departing students, and checked his watch, a big gold-and-titanium thing with ten hands. "Ack. Missed! Twenty minutes off in a two year jump, sloppy..." He looked up. "Okki! Hey, man. How's it going?"

Kyle listened to the orientation speech with the same disinterested detachment that every other returning student seemed to share. As soon as they were dismissed, he was one of the first to hurry towards the auditorium doors. There was unpacking to do, and then an early check-in at the infirmary. He'd drawn the first night shift back from summer break, and had to hurry if he was going to be on time.
---

Elizabeth was somewhere else. She usually was most times, honestly. There was a walker inside her, a minor spirit moving her arms and legs towards her dorm. Her eyes glowed a soft white, motes of violet and grey swimming in her irises as the siprit moved silently inside of her. Nobody could see, though. Last year, Elizabeth had learned early on to keep a pair of sunglasses handy to avoid any questions.

Elizabeth didn't need to have a ghost ride her body back to the dorms, but she appreciated the moment of calm surrounded by all the students. Besides, the spirits appreciated the chance to be inside a body for a few minutes. She made a lot of friends that way. On her way to the dorm, a couple girls in her class who recognized her called her name. Elizabeth didn't notice. She preferred the ghosts.

The sizeable skunk turned his head, giving the younger-looking character next to him a reasonably confused look. "Have...we met?"

THERE was someone Gary recognized. The centaur girl was kind of hard to miss. He walked over to her waving.

"Hey!" he began, "Amber, right?"

Giggling, Ember clasped her hands together as the large boy came over. She shook her head, causing the red hair to sway.

"Close. It is Ember. And you are Gary, right?" Ember inquired, peering closely at Gary. "How was your summer?"

"Not at the same time. I met you next year." The boy held out a hand. "You're Okki Ponns, biosculptor. I'm Riley St. Clair - I give people headaches."
