SNES is the best console ever.

You waste time playing games. Why not waste time talking about them too?

OH MY GOD. the SNES? Seriously? What a load of crap. I barely ever touched the thing, and I certainly didn't want to buy one. Looking back, I believe I bought the Genesis instead (even back then the library didn't appeal to me). Great, you made an good system (NES) a bit better, but only compared with it's fourth generation companions. Playstation moved the industry forward by converting to the CD format, making a better controller and introducing dual shock. Not to mention that PS1 was the first console to sell over 100 million units, meaning it's impact on the gamers themselves was FAR greater from market penetration alone. Isn't that what you guys keep telling me when you compare the the DS to the PSP? Also, in the article the guy referenced the inability to save anywhere as a some kind of nostalgic 'good' thing. What the hell is he smoking?! Nintendo may claim best console, better arguments could be made for the NES or the Wii, but you will never sell me on a console that only appealed to the Nintendo fanbase. The 'greatest console ever' has to do better then that.

The problem with calling out a single console as "the best" is heavily weighed by personal bias. Everyone has a system they grew up with, or a favorite game or two. Thus, there's a 99% chance that console would be, in your opinion, the best console ever.

There's people in this world who think the Intellivision is the best console. There's people who think the Neo Geo is the best. What can you do?

Kotaku said it best I think:

"Personally, I'd agree with his casually argued logic—there's a reason I'm anxious to port Super Mario World to every device on the planet but bored by the thought of playing PSOne games on the PSP."

DAN! long time no see. I think he said it best. Ed and Tails merely proved my point, again touting a game I really don't care for much. If I had only two systems to choose from, and one had the Mario franchise and the other didn't but had say, Halo, I'd pick the one without Mario every day of the week. I believe I picked Sega back in the day specifically for the Sonic games, which I enjoyed immensely.

I loved Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, but i must make what I feel is the obvious response on my part:

Can you run Photoshop on the SNES?

And in my predictable response to ed's clear response to my obvious repsonse, I will only ask you to do this in Mario Paint. :P

damn that's a great picture. and thank you NK for reintroducing me to machall :)
I'm not sure comparing women to consoles is such a good idea. They generally take offense to that.

Hey now, I didn't compare, I grouped them together. Two things that are pretty and fun. And I'm not just saying that because my home address may still be haunting the wayback page for Volatile Contents. :)

That said, I think that song was to thwart romantic advances from nerds. I know I'd think twice about any woman that needed six AA batteries, those things are expensive.

Though it could certainly be worse.

No kidding.
Heh,
Funny though, women don't seem to have a problem using battery operated items as a substatute....

Ahem. yeah there is NO WAY I'm linking anything to that.

MQ, you make me cry. I've tried systems from other companies, none seem to flow well with me. Best machine I work with other than a nintendo (excluding computer) would be an Xbox. (In actuality, the 360 controller is virtually the same as a GC controller with an extra shoulder button...) But the SNES has got to be the best thing since DoW. I'll still buy a game for it where I find them. I own more games for the SNES than any other system I own and regret the purchase of no game.

Doppler, I point you to any of the Simpsons branded games, the Cho Aniki series, "Mario's Time Machine" and "Mario is Missing." (Though I can't verify the availability of any of those in cart format. I would never break the law, but if I had played any of those games, it would have been via the ZSNES emulator. However, had I downloaded Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World, and Super Mario Allstars, I would have loved them. But I don't download ROMs as it's of dubious legality. )

And I would point out that the GC, 360, X-Box Controller S and (to a lesser extent) original X-Box controller are all derivatives of the Dual Shock with the d-pad and left analog idiotically switched. But the dual shock kinda mimics the N64 controller, which is itself kinda like the original PSX controller with a third handle for the analog stick. (I'm just guessing here as I don't care enough to look up the dates.) And the original PSX controller is basically the SNES controller with those wonderful ergonomic handles and a second pair of triggers.

That said, as much as the original X-Box controller resembles the N64 / Gamecube controllers, there's a reason the Controller S and the 360 controller are as close as patents will allow them to get to the Dual Shock. :)

Actually, it all goes back to one of the original Game & Watch titles, I think it was the one where you had to catch oil drops or something. Nintendo invented the d-pad with that game, if I'm not mistaken. The design was used for the NES controller, and the rest is history.

The PSX controller and the Dual Shock, however, were the first (and until the Controller S came out, the only) controllers that were designed by someone who was aware of the size and shape of the human hand. :)
