Final Fantasy 12!?

You waste time playing games. Why not waste time talking about them too?

Final Fantasy 12!?

Has anyone played FF12 yet? It's really cool. The cinema scenes are really awesome, and voice overs are decent. Great story too. Verrrrry pretty game. The camera controls are a little weird but other than that, the game is awesome.

Just started playing FF 12. Yeah it seems pretty great. It could be the best Final Fantasy yet!

Cheers,

So basically I should quit my job because if I don't I'm going to get fired for lack of showing up to work?

Yeah, I got FFXII for Christmas.

But it's like canned WOW, aparently.

...more seriously, the game mechanics are v. MMO, but without the dealing with morons bit.

ff12's story is enough to keep me playing but honestly, I don't like a lot of the mechanics. The gambit system is worthless until you unlock all of the gambit slots and get all the gambits. the licensing system is almost worse then the sphere grid. it seems that the developers decided that they didn't want you to develop characters for certain jobs, i say that because there are more then a few areas on the grid where you have to go through lets say maces and axes if you want to get to the next stave's and rods. most of the techniques are worthless. the only one worth having is Libra, I already have brach with all of them unlocked and he doesn't have any reason to use any of them. Its a lot more effective to just constantly attack. the only reason to spend time unlocking accessories is when there isn't anything else to unlock. the magic defenses of enemies is highly weighed against you. for a large portion of the game the enemies are weak against either earth magic or wind magic. problem is by this point of the game you cant buy wind magic and there isn't any earth magic at all. As for weapons and armor and stuff like that the licensing system is pointless for that too. the only time to unlock new armor or weapons is when they become available. guns and bows are significantly weaker then any other weapon (aside from rods and staves) the only high point for them is that they can be used from far away. Leveling is a must. if you aren't the same level as some of your enemies you'll get your ass handed to you. I have a lot of other complaints but like I said the story is enough to keep me playing.

Charge can be worth it. Also, you can buy Aero. (Black Magic 2.) I do have to agree about the lack of earth magic, though: it's a damn annoyance.

where can I buy aero? Ive yet to find a store that sells it. which is funny cause black magic 2 also unlocks water and I can find that everywhere.

...good question! *pokes the guidebook a bit*

It's avalible sometime after you reach Bujherba. Mayhaps on the Leviathan or on the Westerstersand? Another thing is that you really, really want to keep going back to Rabanastere because most of the store updates happen at the same time there/Montblanc keeps giving you stuff for boss batles. So try the magic shop there.

I have been consumed by this game. I am basically bideing my time at work until I can play it again. I spent prolly a goood two hours just wandering around killing things and getting LPs. Eh I kinda like the licsense grid. It's something new and different. Granted, I liked to sphere grid too so take that for what it's worth. I'm only 4 hours in, and if my opinion changes I'll let you know, but I doubt it. :)

Sphere grid at least forced a direction with your character until end game. The choices with the new system are fighter and mage, at least until you get the gold amulet (early-ish) and suddenly everyone just has everything. :(

Still ok I guess, would play FFX over it though :P

heh, oh trust me I'm an FFX fan. I'm looking forward to playing FFX-2 when I get home. still I don't mind only having a few choices. to be honest, when I played FFX I cross-skilled almost everyone as early as I could. I prefer everyone to have the same options, especially in battle. The one thing that has annoyed me so far is when you equip people with something and they leave the party that item leaves with them. That is MEGA annoying to me, and one of my gaming pet peeves.
Ah well, I'm still having fun with it, and I prolly would have stayed up late playing it too if we hadn't gotten a rocket attack last night. :)

I'm getting better at dealing with the Gambit system. I also LOVE chaining. I can chain for hours. It makes leveling up really easy. frankly I can't remember the last time I played a FF game had this little difficulty leveling. I wait impatiently at work until I can leave and play some more.
