Anyway, maybe it's just me, but I could care care less where a character comes from, as long as it's original (not stolen from some other story/book/anime etc.) and well-built. TheSeer used David the wizard in its story, and then transported him even in Chambers, so I don't see why you shouldn't.
They're your chars after all, and you can do what you want with them. They're like, your sons and you their father, we could say...

well, I just6 got started, and I am a total background freak. I have a hard time writing a character until I have their background totally outlined. I think it is fun !!! anyway, cool to see so many characters that everyone puts into CH. I need to read through it before I can bring anymore into it. Well I know how I'll be spending the winter break. Glassy eyed from reading CH!

I have a recurrent character called Peter who I like to just fit into stories subtly. I drew him a few weeks ago in a moment of boredom, I was going for something darker and he's very dark character-wise. He just pops up, generally in a small but telling way then disappears again.
